Part 1: How To Find Your Best Bra Size & Fit

Curious if your current bra is doing all it should do to help you look your best? Even if it “feels right” to you, there still may be room for improvement. After all, 80% of women are currently wearing the wrong bra size.

I want to help you find bras that will not only fit you, but also feel great, make you look slimmer, and have gorgeous, formfitting details to make you feel confident and ready to take on the world.

Let’s take a few moments to understand what your bra should (and shouldn’t) look and feel like to determine if you’re wearing the right size.

In this post, I’ll cover a range of key topics – so feel free to click on one to jump right to it.

To begin, let’s discuss what to look for in a properly fitting bra.

How to know if your bra fits correctly

Check in with your shoulders.

  1. Do your straps stay put, dig in, or fall off?

Check in with your breasts.

  1. After adjusting your bra (see my tips on how to do this here), do your breasts overflow or spill over the top of the cups?

  2. Alternatively, do they sit low in the cup leaving a space between your breast and the cups?

  3. Does the underwire sit under your breasts in the crease or does it ride up on your breasts?

Check in with the band.

  1. Is the center of your bra sitting flat against your body between your breasts? (The exception to this is if you are wearing a minimizer bra or a soft cup bra and wear larger than DD cup. This may not be the case. In these two cases, the center not resting against your sternum is okay).

  2. Does your bra band sit snugly and is it parallel to the ground, or does it squeeze you too tightly or ride up your back over time?

  3. Are your hook and eyes on the tightest or the middle setting or are you using the very last hook?

Proper bra fit at a glance

  1. Your straps stay put all day and are comfortable

  2. Your breasts fill the cups without spilling over or gaping

  3. The underwire sits in the crease under your breasts

  4. The center of the bra is resting flat against your chest

  5. The band is snug but not too tight and is parallel to the floor

  6. You hook the bra on the middle or tightest setting

Now that you know what to look for in a properly fitting bra, let’s help you determine the right bra size for you.
